Me A Teacher?

I have been giving it some great thought and decided to take the plunge. I emailed regarding becoming a Michael's certified instructor for paper crafting.  I received a reply and have begun the steps.  It's gonna be an exciting endeavor that I hope to blog about here.

If you don't know anything about scrapbooking and paper crafting, I have found that SpottedCanary.com is the best place to start. They offer up free online classes and provide a nice little discount if you buy from their store.  Pretty decent.  Each of their classes also has a challenge - so far its looking to be a new challenge each month. I participated in one for the Designing in Layers class. That challenge ended January 31 - am waiting for the winner announcement. The winner gets $250 prize package.  

I'm not totally sure, but I believe you have to complete each of the Spotted Canary classes to get certified - suppose I should find out soon. My request to become certified was sent to EKSuccess as well - so I can become certified for presenting Spotted Canary classes at Michael's.  So far the online classes are amazing. I am learning a lot. I have sat through and watched Layers, Borders, and Steam Punk. 

I also watched the most recent class - Paper Blossom Bouquets.  February's challenge is to create a project using the Paper Blossoms.  I am still thinking on that one as we don't have to create a bouquet, as they did in the videos. We can choose from cards, scrapbook pages, etc.  Easter is coming up and a nice Easter bouquet would look awesome on my desk at work....

Slice Project 2 - It's Your Day

"It's Your Day" is a birthday card I created for a co-worker's birthday. I used the Slice "Parties" design card. I recycled a bow from Christmas and used some pretty paper I picked up on clearance at Michael's - Creative Imaginations Debbie Mumm collection.

I was short on adhesives as I have been unable to locate my Tombow mono dispenser.... I used glossy accents to adhere the gold cording around the craft frame as well as to add the glitter to my paper present.  I purchased the gold letters at Michael's when they were half off the other week - they are EK Success Sticko brand letters.  

The inside of the card is just a piece of craft card stock and recycled lacy gold ribbon. The stamp is a cling stamp from the dollar bin at Michael's with the "to you" in the bottom right masked off.  

Hope she likes the card. I had a ton of fun making it. I have three co-worker birthday's this week...one more card to make and an altoid tin to alter/wrap.  Then I can start on my Valentine's projects. Have a good week! Will check in Friday with what I have done for Valentine's Day.

Slice Project 1 - Birthday Banner

My first slice project was a birthday banner for my step-daughter's 17th birthday.  She wanted something using purples and blues.  I used the Parties design card for the banner triangles and the scalloped circles. The letters were created using the Vintage Findings design card. I attached each triangle to a ribbon using brads in each corner. The ribbon is just a purple satin ribbon that I picked up at Michael's. The designer paper was just some individual sheets I had on hand that came from Michael's.

Banners are fairly easy to create - which was why I started with one of those. I hope to post another project soon.  My sister-in-law's birthday is coming up and I plan to create her birthday card in the next day or so and get it mailed by Saturday.

Since picking up a second job at Michael's, I have gotten the skinny on the good deals. I picked up a Memory Maker's Slice die cut machine for real cheap - 19.99. It is the original Slice and not the Elite, but so far its working great.  In addition to the great price on the machine itself I also got a super great deal on the cartridges. When I got the machine I got an additional 3 cartridges with it - only $4.99 per cartridge. So later that week I grabbed 5 more - giving me a total of 9 cartridges including the one that came with it.  Well, today I decided to pick up another one or two cartridges and when my co-worker scanned them they rang up at $2.00 per cartridge so I picked up another 5 cartridges. I'd show you photos of them but my camera batteries are dead and it will be the weekend before I can pick up some more after today's little splurge.

I haven't had much time to play with my Slice but I did make a Happy Birthday banner for my step-daughter's birthday on the 14th. As soon as I get new batteries for my camera I will post a photo. I am hoping to use these cartridges to create some really cool cards.

In addition to the cards, I have the ink pen tips in blue and black ink as well as marker tips in primary colors and brights for drawing with the slice. I have been on the look-out for a deal on the embossing tip but so far I have not had any luck yet. Since making the list above I also realized I don't have Basic Shapes 3. I work at Michael's tomorrow so I will alleviate that (at $2 why not!)
