Thankful Balloons - Weekly Deals 12/29/2015

Thankful Balloons - Weekly Deals Project for 12/29/2015

Amazing Birthday is an awesome stamp set. And this week you can pick it up on sale as part of our Weekly Deals. There is one sentiment in particular within the Amazing Birthday stamp set that I want to focus on with my project today - and that is the Thankful banner flag stamp.  I want to point out to you just how wonderful this particular sentiment in this set goes with one of the new birthday sets from the up-coming occasions catalog - the Balloon Celebration.

I created this card specifically to give to a co-worker who's last day is coming up, thanks to downsizing, at our company.  I hate that she is leaving us, as she has been not only my co-worker, but also a trainer and mentor to me.  She isn't too distraught about moving on as she had planned to retire soon anyway - but I still want to show her that I am so very thankful to her for all she has done for me.  I know I have spent countless hours asking her question after question about creating ads and fixing issues within PDF's and such. She has so much patience and is so sweet! I am so very sad to see her go. I hope this card lets her know she will always be thought of with good and positive thoughts.

For this card I used Amazing Birthday stamp set, Balloon Celebration (coming in January), the Balloon Bouquet punch (coming in January) Cherry On Top DSP stack, Pool Party and Basic Black cardstock, and the Archival Black ink pad. Here's how I did it:
  • I started off with a card base in Pool Party measuring 8 1/2" x 5 1/2", scored at 4 1/4" and folded in half.  Next I cut my Basic Black cardstock down to 4" x 5 1/4" and my DSP stack piece at 3 7/8" x 5 1/8". I layered those two pieces together and mounted them on the card base, centered.
  • Next I cut a piece of basic black to 2 5/8" x 4 3/8" and a piece of whisper white to 2 1/2" x 4 1/4" then stamped the balloon bouquet string from the Balloon Celebration stamp set in Archival Black ink onto the whisper white piece. Then I layered that piece on top of the basic black piece and adhered them to the card front.
  • Using the Basic Black Archival and the Cherry On Top DSP stack, I chose a few random patterns and stamped and punch 3 of each size of balloon. I arranged these beginning with the large balloons and working my way toward the smaller balloons. I adhered the large ones with my SNAIL and the small ones with dimensionals.
  • Using the Thankful banner stamp, I stamped this on a piece of Pool Party scrap with the Archival Black ink and fussy cut around the banner.  Then I fussy cut another banner in the Basic Black cardstock and the background print I chose for the main front layer. I adhered the banner pieces together, alternating the un-stamped banners diagonally. Then I adhered them to the front of the bouquet strings.
Don't you think that banner goes really well with the Balloon Celebration stamp set???  Its so sketchy looking, just like the balloon outlines!  Perfect match!

Weekly Deals (while supplies last)

The deals this week would so totally go well together following the ideas from my card above. You could easily use the ornate tag topper punch in place of the whisper white focal piece on my card front. Additionally, you could mount it over a piece of plain cardstock, instead of DSP, embossed in one of the fun frames embossing folders. Finally, you could use the fine tip glue to glue the Bermuda Bay Baker's Twine over the black balloon strings that were stamped. Of course, you would need to order these supplies this week and then order the Balloon Celebration stamp set bundled with the Balloon Bouquet punch next week when the Occasions Catalog is live.

So go ahead, order your deals today!

Glimmer Paper Tips And This Week's Weekly Deals

My focus for today's post is on Glimmer Paper.  This week you can pick up your Silver Glimmer paper at a discount - its included in our weekly deals (see below).  You can also still pick up Black Glimmer paper before it's gone - as part of our Year End Sale. And when you pick up your glimmer paper, be sure to follow the tips below for best ways to conserve and adhere your glimmer paper.

Glimmer paper is quite unlike regular cardstock and with the differences come a few tricks for ensuring the shimmer and shine you put on your projects lasts. The biggest difference I have found with glimmer paper is the backing material. Most cardstock is the same texture on the front and back, but glimmer paper has a super shiny surface on the back - making it more difficult for glues and adhesives to adhere to.

  • When using a layer of glimmer paper behind another layer, where just the edge of the glimmer paper is shown, try punching or cutting out the center part that is hidden behind the top layer - this not only saves you some glimmer paper to use elsewhere, but gives you a different surface to adhere your top layer to once its on your card base.  For example, when you layer a 2" cirgle on top of a 2 3/8" scallop circle, use the 1 3/4" circle punch to punch a hole in the center of the scallop circle before adhering your layers, then adhere layers directly to card front using your adhesive between the card base and top circle layer.

  • When adhering glimmer paper directly to your project, separate the shiny backing from the rest of the glimmer paper and peel off, like a sticker.  Then apply your adhesive. Giving your adhesive a rough surface seems to make a huge difference in the ability for the glimmer paper to stay attached.
For adding dimension and adhering directly to glimmer paper....
  • To add dimension between the glimmer scallop and the circle top layer, just use dimensionals.
  • If you choose to not punch out the center of your glimmer paper, you will want to be sure to use either glue dots or several dimensionals to adhere the top layer to the glimmery side of the glimmer paper. Extra adhesive is needed due to the texture of the glitter.

Weekly Deals

This week's weekly deals include Silver Glimmer Paper and our Color Me Irresistible Specialty DSP, pretty Daffodil Delight 1/4" cotton ribbon, and the Be The Star Wood Mount stamp set (which coordinates with our Star Framelits). Stock up on your favorites!

I can never have enough glimmer paper. I absolutely love to use it for embellishing a card.  A small strip of shimmer behind a layer really adds pop to your card. I love it best for punching itty bitty accents punches to use as a quick accent on a card. Or use it in conjunction with the stars or hearts border punch and have a bunch of itty bitty embellishments!

Here are a couple of cute cards that Stampin' Up! created using the "Be The Star" stamp set along with the coordinating framelits.  Do you have this stamp set? I'd love to see how you use it!

Bow Tie Holidays is a spin off of a technique card I created last year that involved coloring glimmer paper. With this tutorial, while I still used glimmer paper, I wanted to focus on the bow builder punch. I love this punch as it makes creating bows quick and simple.  My featured stamp is from the November Paper Pumpkin Kit - Mistletoe and Holly. My Paper Pumpkin has some of the very best photopolymer stamps I have ever seen. I love mixing and matching from one kit to another.

I love the versatility and exclusivity of my Paper Pumpkin stamps. I enjoy the challenge that each new kit brings - not knowing what is coming helps fuel my creativity once it arrives.  Take a look at what we received in the November kit....  Starting with the December kit, anyone who subscribes under me will begin receiving Pumpkin Happy Email from me that contains exclusive additional projects showing step-by-step how stretch your Paper Pumpkin dollars. Projects may or may not use other products - a detailed supply list will accompany each mini tutorial - and not all projects will be cards.

I hope you enjoyed today's card. Don't forget to take advantage of the offers below.
  • This week's Weekly Deals includes some fabulous fun stuff at discounted prices!

I have decided to extend the time to win out until the next Freebie Friday post - so you will have a full week to comment to win. Good luck!

Masking A Mini Gift Bag

The two mini gift bags above were made using the Hearts and Stars Decorative Masks - on sale in our weekly deals. These masks make a great addition to your holiday stampin' supplies. They work great for both Christmas, Valentine's, and 4th of July!

Other items I used that will coordinate with the masks include the sweet heart punch, the stars framelits, and our sequin assortment that comes in both brights and metallics.

Also, not used that coordinate includes the stars and hearts border punches,  the itty bitty accent epoxy stickers (color with a sharpie to make them any color you want!) and we have hearts and stars embossing folders - which you could use to dry emboss layers above or below your inked mask.

The options are endless and the impact delightful!  Masks are extremely simple to use - just grab a sponge dauber and some ink...and sponge ink over the mask  - OR - pick up a spritzer bottle and add a little alcohol and ink refill to the spritzer...then spray on.  Its super easy to do.

In addition to the hearts and stars masks, you can also pick up our precision base plate for the Big Shot which works great to cut intricate dies such as the Delicate Ornament Thinlits or the Butterfly thinlits. Our Bitty Banners Framelits and Iced Rhinestones are also on sale through December 14 (while supplies lasts).  Shop now to get the best prices on these items... you may not see them on sale again for quite a while!

There are only 2 days left to sign up for Paper Pumpkin and receive the December kit.  The image above is a photo of a few of the stamps that came in November's kit.  These stamps are exclusive ONLY to Paper Pumpkin subscribers.  You CAN NOT get them anywhere else.  AND they can be reused over and over... not just to create the kit.

For example, in today's project - my hearts mini gift bag - the stamp and the tag are from previous paper pumpkin kits. The silver stars on the stars mini gift bag are too.  There are always plenty of embellishments left over from one kit to another. I use the boxes to organize and store my spare embellishments and other pieces I haven't yet used.

There are other perks for joining my team of Pumpkin subscribers. Click on the Paper Pumpkin link above and read more about it.

Go Wild... Go Gold!

Today's featured card is the Go Wild... Go Gold 50th Birthday Card. I created this card using both the Go Wild 6x6 paper stack and Gold Glimmer paper. Both of those are part of our Weekly Deals this week and they go together so nicely, don't you think?

The Holiday catalog includes lots of gold items to pair with the Gold Glimmer paper including the Winter Wonderland holiday line on page 23 which includes a vellum stack, a 12x12 paper pack, and coordinating washi tape. In addition, there’s gold cording, really cool Reindeer Paper Clips, Gold and White Glitter Ribbon, and even the Hello December 2015 Project Life accessory pack.

Be sure to grab your Holiday Gold before it retires on January 4th.

Grab the Holiday Gold!

In addition to the first two items I used on the Go Wild... Go Gold card, there are some other great products on the deals this week. The mint macaron classic stampin' pad is one of our 5 newest in-colors. You can see some of the coordinating in-color products in Mint Macaron on my card - the cardstock and lace trim are both Mint Macaron. Its such a lovely soft color, and yet its still has a masculine feel.

Also, in the next few months, Valentine's day will be coming... get a head start now by picking up the awesome hearts embossing folder at a discounted price. You may not get it this cheap again.

Weekly Deals and More!

Weekly Deals for November 17-23

The deals for November 17-23 include some great holiday items that you can pick up with extra savings! There were two items in the weekly deals this week that are Shack Scraps favorites - the Season of Cheer Cardstock Pack and the Jolly Christmas stamp set.
I just love the cardstock packs that are now being offered.  Its a great way to get just enough coordinating cardstock to use with your designer series paper packs. The wonderful Season of Cheer Cardstock Pack is, in my opinion, one of the BEST ways to sample the extra thick Whisper White cardstock that was introduced with our new catalog. If you haven't already tried it out, you should right now!  With the pack you get 8 full sheets of 100-lb, perfect for card bases, along with 8 sheets of both Cherry Cobbler and Pear Pizzazz. Great colors for Holiday cards plus it coordinates with the Season of Cheer DSP pack and matching washi tape.  See the Season of Cheer line on page 28 and 29 of the Holiday catalog.

The awesome Jolly Christmas wood block set is another great value this week. While I mostly buy clear and photopolymer sets, I do enjoy the wood blocks - especially when I am sharing my stamps with friends who don't stamp all that often - which is especially useful for holiday stamps when I have Christmas Card parties.  This set is extra special though because I am in love with the jumping reindeer and those awesome stick figure snow flakes (at least that's what I call them).. they remind me of the counter top we had when I was growing up. The cards shown above are out of the holiday catalog using Jolly Christmas. I just love the simple designs Stampin' Up! shares in the catalog.  They are easy to CASE (copy and share everything).  Below is my version of the Stampin' Up! designs from page 27.

I used two stamp sets from the annual catalog, Santas Gifts and Lots of Joy, to create these cards. When I CASE a card, I try not to copy it exactly, down to the stamp set, etc.  I try to change up the stamp sets, sentiments, and embellishments. The only thing I try to keep pretty close to the same is the layout or SKETCH.  I'd love to see what you can come up with when you play with these layouts.

Holiday Catalog Retiring Lists

Hey Stampers, as Christmas draws nearer, our holiday catalog is preparing to come to a close. For the first time ever, Stampin' Up! is releasing a retiring list for the Holiday catalog. What that means is that from now until January 4 is your LAST CHANCE to get some of these great products. Remember, these retiring items are only available WHILE SUPPLIES LAST! Get yours before they are gone.  Linked below is the list, in both PDF and sortable Excel files, it will be updated daily as the supply runs out so check back often.
I usually take my list and highlight all the retiring products in my personal catalog - that way I can see quickly the items that will be leaving - so if I want them, I can pick them up quickly before they are gone for good.  This time though, I highlighted those items that WILL carry over into the Occasions catalog and possibly beyond as I know that list is much smaller than the retiring list, making it easier to see in my catalog.

Holiday Ordering & Shipping Info

The festive season is a busy time of year for sending and receiving packages, so naturally shipping times may slow down. Also, delivery times vary depending on where you live; if your personal experience indicates that it takes longer for packages to reach you, you should allow a little extra time for shipping during the holidays. As you know, we cannot control delivery times. Holiday mail volumes are high, and our delivery services encourage customers to ship as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

In addition, please keep in mind that 3-day shipping does NOT include expedited handling. The 3-day shipping time begins once the order has been processed and fulfilled in the order it was received--not from the date of the order.

And a final reminder: if ordering gifts that will be shipped directly to the recipient, remember that the recipient will receive a confirmation email. We don't want you to spoil your surprise!

Joyful Tidings

Joyful Tidings - Masking Technique

Today's card was inspired by my Paper Pumpkin stamps from October. I wanted to show that while the stamps may be designed for a specific purpose in the Paper Pumpkin kits, it still has plenty of mileage left for many other awesome projects. The October flower stamp looks so closely like a poinsettia flower outline. I used a blender pen to color the flowers and leaves in and give a bit of depth by subtle shading. Blender pens work like magic!

My chosen colors are Mossy Meadow, Cherry Cobbler, Gold and Whisper White.  The ribbon I used is NOT Stampin' Up! but it goes so nicely with the Mossy Meadow cardstock I just HAD to use it. Its Celebrate It 5/8" satin ribbon from Michaels that I have had in my stock for several years now. I also used a metallic gel Pentel pen called Sunburst to trace the stamen on the flowers. The sentiment is from Christmas Messages stamp set from last year. The gold ink as well as the sentiment, is from last year's holiday catalog - Encore Gold from Tsukineko. I put a sliver of gold glitter paper behind the sentiment which was cut to a 1 1/4" strip with the ends punched using the retired artisan label punch - just about any label punch will let you flag the ends of a strip of paper.  I also used the gold sequin - circle shaped for the centers of the flowers.

How to Create a Mask

The flowers were stamped using a layering affect called masking.  Basically, just stamp the image you want to layer onto thin post-it notes or typing paper, cut it out carefully by hand, following the lines, cover the back side with the 2-way glue pen and let it dry. This piece is now your mask. Stamp your image on your background paper and cover with the mask. Now you can stamp another image on top and to the side to give the effect of layering. Make multiple masks and cover your stamped images to create many different layers giving your collage of images a sense of depth.

What is a Paper Pumpkin Kit?

Paper Pumpkin is a monthly subscription you can receive that gives you everything you need to create awesome paper crafting projects for only $19.95 per month (including shipping). Its great for the beginning stamper as it provides projects that are already pre-designed with easy to follow instructions. It lets you slowly build a stamp collection that is both exclusive and extremely affordable. The stamp sets are very versatile and can be used over and over again. Its also great for the advanced stamper as it gives you a jumping off point to spark your creativity.

The kit also includes all the paper, ink, and embellishments you need to complete the pre-designed projects. Stampin' Up! also posts an easy to follow video showing how to assemble the projects right on Youtube. About the only thing you may need is a bit of adhesive and  maybe 30 minutes to sit down. Although, most times the adhesive is already included.

With Sympathy... Weekly Deals for Sept 15-21

With Sympathy

My card today was designed with a close family friend in mind. Her step-father passed away yesterday and she has been on my mind a lot the last few days. He was like a great grandfather to my children and he will be dearly missed.

In this card I used three of our weekly deal items - the fringe scissors, the butterfly thinlits, and the whisper white satin ribbon. I used the stamping off method for some of the background fern leaves and the yellow floaty flowers. My color choices today were Crumb Cake for the card base and Crushed Curry for the butterflies and background layer. Mossy Meadow for the fringed grass on the front and the ink for the fern and sentiment.  I used 1/2" increments to create my layers for a non-standard look.

Weekly Deals - September 15-21

I hope you enjoyed today's card.  There are lots of great values in the deals today. My favorite this week would have to be the min treat bag thinlits die. Its truly a great value at the full price - so its an even better value at the deal price. You won't want to miss out on this one!
