Mustang Monday - Meet Cucumber Crush

Hi there Stampers!  Hope all of you had a great weekend. I know mine was busy! I spent the weekend in Kansas City. Friday night I visited with a girl friend and Saturday I spent the day with my Stampin' sisters. Our quarterly team meeting was held Saturday from 8:30 - 3:15 (4ish for a few of us). I love these meetings, they are always so inspirational! After the meeting, I went on a mission to find a place called T-Rex Cafe.  I found it...what a cool place!  I plan to bring my grand daughter up here sometime in July... she is just gonna love it! KC is a great place to visit....

Our make and takes at the meeting (cuz you can't have a Stampin' meeting without stampin' something) were centered around our new in-colors - so I have a really cool card to share!  This week's in-color focus is on Cucumber Crush. It is such a bold and bright green! I am definitely loving it!

I did manage to find a Cucumber Crush green Mustang... check out this 1967 Mustang Fastback. I found this image on a Mustangs Daily page. I won't copy their article...but it is a fairly short read and includes some other shots of this sweet Cucumber Crush (or as they call it, Snakeskin Green) car as well as a link back to RestoMod's Facebook page where you can see the entire build of this car.... LOVE IT!

Once again, I did a comparison with other greens from our Stampin' Up! color families. I compared it to Wild Wasabi, Old Olive, Pear Pizzazz, Always Artichoke, Bermuda Bay, and the newly retired Pistachio Pudding.  There definitely isn't another green like it from our current color families.

I definitely think it will pair nicely with Wild Wasabi and Pear Pizzazz for a monochromatic look... I may have to try that later in the week...  Bermuda Bay has way more blue in it than green, but I wanted to try to pair it next to another bold, bright greenish color. I am not liking how it pairs but I am going to play with it too at some point this week.

Featured Card: Beautiful Bunch Meets Cucumber Crush

This is one of the 5 cards we created as a make and take at our quarterly team meeting. I had a great time creating this card and if you would like to CASE it, I have the stamp sets you need listed below along with the paper and ink info.

Stamps: Beautiful Bunch, Gorgeous Grunge, Another Thank You
Ink: Memento black pad, Cucumber Crush Stampin' Write Marker.
Papers: Cucumber Crush card stock, In-Color Envelop Paper
  • Start by stamping the three large flowers from Beautiful Bunch using Memento Black ink onto a piece of whisper white card stock that 5 1/4" x 4.
  • Then ink up the Gorgeous Grunge splatter stamp and stamp it twice as shown, then stamp the ink drop stamp from Gorgeous Grunge as shown.
  • Cut a strip of the striped envelope paper 3/4" by 2 3/4", flag the end and stamp "thanks" on it.
  • Use the Cucumber Crush Stampin' Write marker to color in the flowers as shown.
  • Adhere the whisper white stamped card stock piece to the front of a Cucumber Crush card base, then adhere the striped thanks piece as shown.

Boost Your Weekly Deals With These Tips

Organizational Tip

  • The Alpha Rotary Stamp is the perfect addition to your craft room - use it to stamp custom labels to identify your card stock, sorting embellishments, etc. Just dial in the name and stamp it on a return address label, then stick it right where you want it!

Thinlits Tips

  • When using thinlets with the big shot remember that each Big Shot may be calibrated differently. You may need to add a shim of cardstock or chipboard to get your thinlit to cut perfectly. Always try it WITHOUT the shim first to prevent damaging your Big Shot and your thinlits.
  • Thinlits with intricate designs may have small pieces stuck. To prevent this you can place a piece of waxed paper on top of your cutting material and also on top of the thinlit. Run through as usual, the waxed paper will help the cardstock to release more easily.

Embossing Folder Tip

  • Use your embossing folder like a letter press by inking one side of the embossing folder with a brayer, place your card stock into the folder, close and roll over it with a standard rolling pin, or for a double embossed and inked look, run it through your big shot.
  • Remember to only used water based inks such as Stampin' Up! Classic Ink pads and never use permanent inks.  Clean promptly to prevent staining.

Glimmer Paper Tip

  • Gold glimmer paper pairs well with Soft Suede card stock for a subtle look.
  • Before punching glimmer paper, try sharpening your punches with a folded up piece of foil. The sharper the punch the easier it will cut.

Mustang Monday presents Tip Top Taupe

This week we are meeting up with Tip Top Taupe, another of the brand new 2015-2017 In-Colors. Below is the in-color bookmark that I made last week along with the coordinating ink pad and marker.

While this is so not my favorite of the neutral colors, I did take the time to do a color comparison, like last week.  I compared it to several of our neutral colors and one of the regal colors, Always Artichoke.  And finally I compared it to the recently retired, but never forgotten Baked Brown Sugar - which was one of my favorites of the recently retired in colors.

I must apologize for the quality of my comparison image... it is so difficult to take photos late at night, but my schedule was quite busy this weekend and that's when I was able to find the time to photograph. Thank the Lord for photoshop... without it I would be in deep doo-doo.

I also created a simple masculine card - as to me, that's what Tip Top Taupe will best be used for. Soft browns make good roughing up colors - so that your projects look a bit more rustic.  I used a sponge dauber to add a bit of roughing up to my card.

If you have the new in-colors to play with, I'd love to see what you come up with using Tip Top Taupe.  Go ahead, create a card and comment back the link where you shared it. Have fun!

Worried about meeting the minimums?

There are several ways that you can meet the minimum quarterly amounts. The easiest way is to get some friends signed up on Paper Pumpkin - 7 monthly subscriptions will fulfill your quarterly minimums. Have a Pumpkin party every month and get all 7 of your subscribers together to have some fun!

Another great way is to start a stampin' club. Gather a few friends together every month who are interested in building their stampin' supplies and host a party. Share a few cards, snacks, stories, and have some fun.  If you have 5 people and they each spend $30, you will quickly meet your minimums and you can also get Stampin' Rewards to spend however you like in the catalog!
